Begin Again: Our Commitment to Anti-Racism
We listened. We read. We searched for new voices to understand better. We talked with our husbands, friends, children... each other. We as individuals and Sefte as a brand, cannot go on with business as usual. It is not like before. It can never be like it was before. We must begin again.
Today is the day to begin again.
As Maya Angelou said: "Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better."
So today and every day moving forward we commit to doing better. We commit to using our privilege to make actionable anti-racist change. We commit to continuing to work with people of all different colors and backgrounds all over the world. We commit to seeking out the black community for partnerships in the future. We commit that we're going to make mistakes. We commit to being uncomfortable about it... a small fraction of what the black community has faced for generations. We commit to knowing this isn't enough and cannot be all we do. So we commit to beginning again... and again... and again.
We stand with the Black community, and pledge to make lasting change—starting from within.
Here are the steps we’re taking as a company:
We are educating ourselves on systemic and individual racism in America, knowing that meaningful change comes from a place of knowledge.
We are broadening the countries with which we work to include Black artisans and other women of color.
We are focused on telling more stories that highlight and support the voices of Black women.
We are devoted to hiring models that better represent the many diverse faces of the Sefte sisterhood.
