Sefte Sister: Krista Haskell

When Krista Haskell launched Life by KH, we knew we had to share her, and her new venture, with all of you. We know you'll love her and her story as much as we do.

Tell us why you were / are drawn to Sefte?

I’m drawn to beauty, but beauty with stories and substance. The pieces I bring into my life need to hold their value over time, and by value I don’t just mean monetary or getting maximum usage but also the charm and comfort. Knowing the creative and creation process means something, I’ve also never been a fan of the replacement era. Give me one divine throw over twenty (enter fast furniture store here) any day.

How did you get started doing what you do?

Ha! I’m always getting started, it comes with being a permanent student of the world. I used to be in the film industry, one of my producers got me into yoga back when everyone thought it was a cult. The breathwork and stillness resonated, I left the industry when I had kids and was given the opportunity to reassess my priorities, so I entered into the wellness industry.

What’s something special that sets your company apart?

My ability to take complex concepts and make them easy to digest, with some humor, some passion, and plenty of compassion. These are life skills that can seem complicated and far bigger than they are. Whether I’m teaching in an organization or a group of kids its all about keeping it clear and simple, at the end of the day is there anything more simple than noticing one breath?

Healthy Minds for Kids is a classic example of taking something like Mindfulness and making it entertaining and educational.

What keeps you going every day, either in your craft or going about life?

Curiosity. When I sense an imbalance I lean on curiosity, asking what do I need more of and just as important what do I need less of?

Where do you seek sanctuary - to dream, meditate, be creative or just find me time?

My formal meditation practice I have a cosy corner with two (more the merrier) Sefte meditation pillows. Nature is my mindfulness sanctuary, I can lock into meta-awareness out in nature  quicker than if I’m inside all day.

What have you done to make this sanctuary yours? (if applicable)

It’s sort of mine but I share it with Scout my Frenchie, she’s infatuated with Sefte (not making that up) and laps.

What do you do to try to remain present and slow down?

I read somewhere that ‘Peace is the result of retraining your mind to process life as it is. Rather than as you think it should be’ this resonates with me, most of my anxiety comes from trying to control outcomes / such a waste of energy / so I say to myself ‘accept it like you chose it’ inevitably hearing this will soften my death grip on control.

Where do you find inspiration for your work and for your life?

Nature and movement, I love making stories out of the most mundane scenarios. Oh and kids, working with kids gives you endless inspiration, they are so raw and honest.

Do you have any special rituals for making time with family or friends?

Sure do! Instead of saying ‘I don’t have time’ I reframe it to ‘this is not a priority for me’ and see how that feels. More often than not this will get me out the door.

What’s your favorite Sefte product?

Are Jenn and Sarah a product? Second in line is the new Krista wrap, that’s so vacuous of me but it’s really bloody good!
